Animal Medical Care Foundation : In veel landen staat dierenwelzijn op een laag pitje. Vrijwilligers doen hun uiterste best om met vaak minimale middelen (soms zonder stromend water of electriciteit) de dieren te helpen. Steun van gemeente of overheid is ver te zoeken en men is grotendeels of soms volledig afhankelijk van giften. Het is niet moeilijk voor te stellen dat er dan nauwelijks geld is voor voedsel laat staan voor medische verzorging. Speelgoed is iets waar helemaal geen geld voor is en juist dit kan net een stukje plezier in het leven van een asiel hond of kat (of knaagdier) brengen. De Animal Medical Care Foundation heeft dierenwelzijn hoog in het vaandel, daarom willen wij helpen daar waar nodig is en waar behoefte aan is. Elk opvangcentra kan een lijst opgeven wat men nodig heeft, zo kunnen wij de donaties goed verdelen. Zo krijgt iedereen wat nodig is en voor de sponsors en donateurs is het goed om te zien dat hun donatie ook echt benut wordt.

The Bulgarian Society for Animal Protection and Preservation (BSAPP) is an animal rights charity that was founded by Dr. Stoyan Stoyanov, DMV, Ph.D. and has been in existence since 1998. BSAPP's primary position is that dogs and cats should not be allowed to breed uncontrollably. BSAPP believes that when the dog and cat population is not controlled, serious health, personal safety and animal rights issues arise as a result. In order to end the suffering of countless innocent animals in Bulgaria, widespread sterilization must be carried out. BSAPP also believes that the success of a sterilization campaign is interdependent with community outreach and education that will inspire people in Bulgaria to support and participate in anti-pet overpopulation initiatives as well as learn compassion for animals.

Care packages are graciously accepted for the animals at the Center; and are needed especially during the cold winter months. At this time; items typically requested for care packages are often found in greater abundance and of a higher quality standard in countries other than Bulgaria. Drives for care packages make fantastic projects for communities, schools and churches. Once the packages are received, you will be notified and sent photographs when applicable.

A “blanket drive” could be organized for the animals here at the Center. People who wish to help can gather small to medium sized blankets and lengths of fabric (fleece and ‘cuddly’ fabrics work best, please no wool). One option is to gather blankets at second hand stores, which are generally not found in Bulgaria. Spare blankets are extremely difficult to come by during the winter. Comfort items help the pet to feel safe, calm and relaxed.

A “toys & treats drive” would boost the animals’ spirits and help to prepare them for a “normal” life. Treats encourage good behavior, while toys can lift spirits and deter destructive habits. Toys collected should be “chew toys” such as rawhide bones and rope toys. Please try to avoid stuffed toys that actually promote destructive behavior. Grooming supplies are also needed, and will ensure the pet looks his or her best when people visit the Center to adopt a pet.
